Easter weekend is the perfect time to entertain the kids with delightful DIY projects. From egg decorating and bunny masks to personalised accessories, creating these easy Easter crafts is just as good as the chocolate and lollies.

Add your own flair to these creative Easter craft ideas that double as gorgeous Easter decorations, and enjoy the time spent with your little ones over the long weekend.

1. Nail polish marbled eggs

You’ll need:

• Foam board, $23 at Spotlight
• 4x Nail polish at Life Pharmacy or Chemist Warehouse
• Push pins, $4 at Spotlight
• Bamboo skewers, $3.30 at Spotlight
• Disposable gloves
• Hard-boiled eggs

Instructions:

1. Place your pins into the foam in a grid pattern, roughly 4cm apart from each other to create a drying rack.
2. Fill your container with water to approximately 3cm below the top and put your gloves on – this is where it starts to get messy!
3. Drip two or three drops of nail polish onto the surface of the water, and repeat with as many colours as you like.
4. Use your bamboo skewer to create swirls and patterns in the nail polish. Try not to mix the colours – just a few passes with the skewer will do.
5. When you’re happy with the design, roll an egg between your gloved thumb and forefinger over the surface of the water. Try to cover as much of the egg with nail polish as possible.
6. Place the egg on your makeshift drying rack and wait for it to dry.
7. Once dry, repeat to cover any spots you missed before, then dry on the rack again.
8. Repeat with the other eggs and marvel at your beautiful Easter decorations!

2. Easter bunny mask

You’ll need:

• Easter bunny mask (digital download), $6.39 at Etsy
• Cotton balls at Life Pharmacy or Chemist Warehouse
• Pink felt at Spotlight or Etsy
• Striped paper straws at Spotlight
• Scissors, $3.50 at Spotlight
• Glue stick, $8 at Spotlight
• Double sided-tape, $12 at Spotlight
• Pencil
• Recycled paper or card

Instructions:

1. Download your Easter bunny mask template and print or trace it onto some recycled paper or card.
2. Cut out the mask, including the eye holes, nose and ear inners (gently pierce a hole in the centre with the sharp end of your scissors and then cut around the line. Alternatively, use a scalpel on a cutting mat or chopping board).
3. Use your nose and ear inner template to cut out a felt version. Don’t forget to do two ear inners! Also, cut two long strips out of the leftover paper or card. Make sure they’re long enough to reach around the back of your child’s head.
4. Glue the straps to each side of the mask, and the ear inners into the centre of each ear. Leave white space around each ear to fit cotton wool.
5. Have your child glue around the rest of the mask. Gently spread apart each cotton wool ball and stick it in place over the mask, leaving space for the nose.
6. Cut a straw in half lengthways with scissors; discard one half. Pinch halved straw in the centre, flattening out approximately 2cm. From each end, carefully cut up the length of the straw to the flattened centre to create five whiskers.
7. Use double-sided tape to stick the felt nose in place on top of the flattened centre of the whiskers. Be sure to stick whiskers and nose to the cardboard of the mask, not the cotton wool or it will pull the wool off.
8. Once all the glue is completely dry, stick a strip of double-sided tape to the end of one mask strap. Peel off the backing plastic, wrap it around the child’s head and stick it into place on the other strap (be careful not to get their hair stuck).

3. Easter egg wreath

You’ll need:

• Francheville mountain wreath, $17.50 at Spotlight
• 3x Shamrock craft deco foam eggs, $10 each at Spotlight
• Acrylic paint set, $20 at Spotlight
• Paint brushes, $18.90 at Spotlight
• Crafters choice glue gun pack, $14 at Spotlight
• 3x Humulus Lupulus spray, $7 each at Spotlight
• Feather butterflies, $6.50 at Spotlight

Instructions:

1. Pick your colour theme – a pastel colour palette always looks beautiful. Then use acrylic paints that fit your colour scheme to paint the assorted deco foam eggs in the different colours. Paint all 3 packets worth of eggs so you have plenty of sizes to play with when assembling your wreath. You may need to paint a few coats until the foam stops absorbing all of the colour. Allow the eggs to dry between each coat and set aside to dry once you are finished.
2. Separate the Humulus Lupulus Spray sprigs so you can place them all around the wreath.
3. Use your hot glue gun to attach the eggs to the wreath. Alternate the different sizes and colours to your liking, and distribute them evenly around the frame. Allow the glue to dry completely.
4. Use any spare Humulus Lupulus Spray sprigs to fill in any gaps between the eggs. Fasten them with hot glue and allow to dry completely.
5. Sprinkle your butterflies around the wreath to add a point of difference. Fasten them with hot glue and allow to dry completely.
6. Proudly display your Easter creation!

4. Personalised Easter mug

You’ll need:

• Cricut mug press machine, $348 at Spotlight
• Cricut maker craft cutting machine, $688 at Spotlight
• Cricut standard grip cutting mat, $37 at Spotlight
• Cricut mug press ceramic mugs, from $17 at Spotlight
• Cricut infusible ink transfer sheets, $33 each at Spotlight
• Cricut infusible mug ink, $15 each at Spotlight
• Cricut EasyPress mat, $50 each at Spotlight, or a towel
• Butcher paper, $12.98 at Bunnings
• Lint roller, $12 at Spotlight
• Heat resistant tape, $6.40 each at Spotlight
• Also required: Cricut access subscription

Instructions:

1. On the Cricut Design Space site, build your mug design. You can use this Easter-themed one, or create your own. If you like our Easter design, personalise the name on the mug by double-clicking on the text box that reads ‘Amber’. You will then need to highlight the mug design and the name and use the combine tool on the layers panel and subtract before making it so that it cuts it out of the design template.
2. Push the power button on your Mug Press so itcan preheat while you’re working. There are notemperature settings to worry about, the pressautomatically adjusts to the appropriate timeand temperature.
3. To make sure you have mirrored your design, follow the prompts in Design Space. Place your infusible ink sheet on the cutting mat colour side up, load it into the cutting machine and allow your machine to cut out the template with the fine point blade (included).
4. Carefully use tweezers or weeding tool to remove the parts of your design you don’t want to be transferred to the mug surface (the white areas) and remove them from the backing.
5. Go over your mug with the lint roller to ensure the surface is clean and free of lint. Place your mug on a tabletop and align your design (colour-side against the ceramic surface) and line up on the mug using the semi-circles to line it up and use heat-resistant tape to secure it in place – at the top, bottom and the ends near the handle.
6. Wrap the butcher paper around the mug.
7. Holding the mug handle, lower your mug into theCricut Mug Press. Push down the lever on the MugPress with one hand while holding your mug withthe other hand. Ensure the heat plate covers yourentire design. NOTE: There are no heat settings toadjust, the process is automatic. Indicator lightson the press will light up and act as a progressbar.
8. Once the Cricut Mug Press beeps, release thelever and carefully remove your mug. The mug willbe very hot, but the handle remains cool to thetouch so it’s safe to hold by the handle. Allow yourmug to cool on the Cricut EasyPress Mat or atowel.
9. Once your mug has cooled down, peel off the butcher paper and Infusible Ink Sheet backing to reveal your beautiful personalised Easter mug.
