Easy DIY Dollar Tree Wreath and Decorative Sphere - The Home Intent (1)

In the early years of my marriage, I honestly didn't care much about how my home looked. I wanted it to be decently clean, but didn't even think about decorating!

Somehow I ended up watching a few different YouTube channels where the homemaker really put thought and care into making a beautiful home. Seeing their progress was real inspiration for me to open my eyes to how my home really looked. And the truth was, it didn't look good.

I think I had this unconscious belief that you need a ton of money to have a beautiful home, but you DO NOT! It just takes a little more creativity and thriftiness.

That is why I love Dollar Tree DIY projects. Don't get me wrong, I know a lot of dollar store supplies are complete crap, but there are actually a lot of gems there too. You can combine the gems to make cute and beautiful items to decorate your home!

These two decor items that I'll show you how to make share the same materials, so if you're making one, you may as well make the other! Only four items, only $4. Amazing!

If you don't have a Dollar Tree near you, check your local dollar store or craft store. I bet you they'll have very similar supplies you can use to make these easy crafts!

Let's make this gorgeous DIY summer wreath and fun decorative sphere!

Does Dollar Tree Have Wreath Forms?

Dollar Tree actually has many shapes and sizes of wreath forms (also known as wreath base or wreath frame), as well as different materials, such as willow wreaths, grapevine wreaths and green foam floral wreaths. This makes it quite easy and cheap to throw together a DIY wreath for just a few dollars. They also have other wreath-making supplies like faux florals, floral wire and green tape.

For these two projects, you will need the smallest size of wire wreath form (8 inch), they come in packs of two and you will need two packs, for a total of four wreath forms. Three wreath forms will be used for the sphere and one for the wreath. If you want to make a larger wreath, you will need to purchase a larger wreath form separately.

Does Dollar Tree Have Wreath Hangers?

While picking up your supplies for these projects, Dollar Tree is a great place to get a wreath hanger if you don't already have one. The ones I've seen at Dollar Tree are clear, which is great because they don't distract from the wreath. I have a command hook already on the inside of my front door, which is where I planned to hang this wreath, so I didn't pick up a wreath hanger.

Dollar Tree Items to Pickup

  • 2 Packs of small wire wreath forms (4 wreath forms total)
  • 1 Package of jute twine
  • 1 Flower pick of your choice
  • Hot glue gun and glue sticks (if you don't have one- not sure how well the Dollar Tree one works, as I've never had one)
  • Wire cutters (if you don't have any)

DIY Dollar Tree Wreath with Flowers

Supplies:

  • 1 Wreath form
  • Jute twine
  • 1 Flower pick

Tools:

  • Hot glue gun

Instructions:

Using hot glue, secure the end of the jute twine to the back of the wreath form. Hold the twine until the glue cools and sets each time you glue.

Tightly wrap the twine around the form, securing with a dab of hot glue on the back of the wreath every few inches along the wreath.

Because I am using a command hook to hang the wreath, I left a space at the top for the hook to fit by only wrapping the two bottom wires together and individually wrapping the top wire so it was all covered with twine. If you are using a regular wreath hanger, this is not necessary and you can wrap the whole wreath.

Once you have fully wrapped the wreath form in twine, secure the end of the twine on the back of the wreath, again with hot glue.

Trim any crazy and long twine bits that are sticking out of the wreath. Or leave them for a rougher look, it's up to you!

Pull the faux flowers and leaves you'd like to use off the pick and arrange until you are happy with how it looks on the wreath. It's very important to test this before glueing or you'll probably not be happy with the end result! I like to arrange and take a picture once I'm happy with it, so I can reference the picture once I take it apart and start glueing.

Start by glueing the leaves first, then the flowers over top. That's it!

DIY Dollar Tree Wreath Variations:

  • Use different colors of flowers for different holidays and seasons. For example, use pastel colors for Easter, orange, yellow and brown for fall or faux poinsettas for a Christmas wreath.
  • Only use greenery and omit the flowers for a look that's great year-round. Ikea has some excellent faux eucalyptus that would work well.
  • Add a bow made of white ribbon under the flower bunch (or use your favorite color, I would just use white!)
  • For a very minimalist style wreath, use the largest circle only (after removing it with wire cutters to create the decorative sphere, see below). Wrap in twine and attach the flowers and leaves.

How to Style It

The inside or outside of a door is the perfect place for a wreath, but you could also hang it on a wall with a command hook or place it on a flat surface like a dresser or table standing up against the wall.

DIY Dollar Tree Decorative Sphere

Supplies:

  • 3 Wreath forms
  • Jute twine

Tools:

  • Hot glue gun
  • Wire cutters

Instructions:

Each wreath form is made up of 3 circles of different sizes attached by short wires. The decorative sphere will be made from the smallest wire circles from each of the 3 wreath forms. Use the wire cutters to cut the short wires that attach the small circle to the medium one, and cut as close as you can to the small circle. Repeat with all wreath forms so you end up with 3 small wire circles.

Attach the end of the jute twine to the small circle with a dab of hot glue. Wrap the twine tightly around the circle, securing every few inches with a dab of hot glue. Fully wrap the circle and repeat with the other 2 circles.

Now push one circle inside of another one perpendicularly so an "x" is formed when they cross. With the "x" on the very top, slide the third circle in horizontally. Done!

How to Style It

Place this on any flat surface like a bookshelf, coffee table, end table or entry shelf. Style it alongside items of different heights and shapes for more interest. Also looks great on top of a short pile of books.
